The mastermind behind Freddy Krueger and the Elm Street series claimed he was not consulted the way he should have been on the project.  The character of Freddy Krueger is changed a bit physically for A Nightmare On Elm Street remake as he was made to appear more like an actual burn victim since fire was his cause of death on more than one occasion.

A Nightmare On Elm Street remake opens with new characters, Dean and Kris.  While at a table in the Springwood Diner, Dean falls asleep and meets a man who is covered in scars from burns.  He is wearing a green and red sweater and a glove with claws on his hand.

The man slashes his throat but what Kris and the waitress see is Dean cutting his own throat.  While at the funeral, Kris sees a mysterious picture of them together as children but she is confused because she doesn’t remember knowing him as a child.  Kris starts dreaming about this same burned man in A Nightmare On Elm Street remake so she vows to not sleep anymore so she won’t be killed.

Soon, her ex-boyfriend Jesse shows up to keep her company so she can sleep but she is murdered.  Jesse runs to Nancy’s house and finds that she is also having dreams about this same man who they discover is Freddy Krueger.

The police arrest Jesse in A Nightmare On Elm Street remake for Kris’ murder and he is also killed while in his jail cell.  Nancy decides she as to do something so her and a friend named Quentin make the discovery that they all attended the same preschool.

Gwen, Nancy’s mother, tells her that Fred Krueger was a gardener who abused the kids, including Nancy and that he managed to skip town before being arrested.  In the meantime, Quentin has a dream where he sees how Fred Krueger was killed by all the parents burning him alive.  Nancy and Quentin realize that Krueger is seeking revenge on the lying children.  Soon, they’re both so exhausted that they start having dreams while they’re awake.

Quentin and Nancy head to the preschool for answers but Nancy falls asleep on the way.  Krueger attacks her but Quentin wakes her up and she realizes she pulled a piece of his sweater into the real world.  They detour to the hospital so Nancy can have the cuts on her arm tended to and Quentin steals a syringe and adrenaline to wake them up when needed.

When they finally arrive at the preschool in A Nightmare On Elm Street remake, they discover the secret room where Kruger really did abuse the children.  Nancy goes to sleep to try to pull Krueger back into the real world and Quentin is suppose to stay awake so he can wake Nancy up.  Unfortunately, he falls asleep and Kruger attacks but does not kill him because he’s more interested in chasing Nancy.  There is a struggle between the two but Quentin who is now awake, injects Nancy with adrenaline to wake her up.  Her plan worked and she managed to pull Krueger out of the dreamworld.

Nancy slices off Krueger’s glove and his throat and lights the secret room on fire.  Quentin and Nancy depart leaving Krueger locked inside.  A Nightmare On Elm Street remake ends with Nancy and her mother coming home from the hospital feeling like the nightmare is over but Krueger appears in a mirror and kills her mother and then pulls her into the mirror while Nancy stands there screaming.
