A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master)

Wes Craven certainly wasted no time with his 1988 release of A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master).  Although Dream Warriors was meant to be the final film in the saga, fans would simply not accept this.

This film had the highest profit so far seeing a gross revenue of over $72 million on a budget of only $7 million.  The fans asked for A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master) and they certainly responded immediately to it.

The Dream Master picks up with characters from The Dream Warriors continuing on with their lives.  Kristen, Kincaid and Joey are now attending high school after being released from Western Hills Asylum.  Kristen is now also friends with Alice the daydreamer, Sheila the quiet girl who has asthma and Debbie who is a pretty tough girl but really hates bugs.  Kristen is also dating Alice’s brother Rick who loves martial arts.

Kristen starts having dreams about Freddy Krueger again in A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master) so she pulls Joey and Kincaid into her dram like in the previous movie to explore the Elm Street deserted house.  The boys manage to convince her that Krueger is not back,  however, Kincaid wakes up to find himself locked up in the trunk of a car at the salvage yard where Krueger was buried.

Well, Krueger is back in A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master)!  He rises from the ground and kills Kincaid.  Later that night, he kills Joey by pulling him into his waterbed and slashing him to death.  After neither show up in school the next day, Kristen tells Alice about her nightmares.  When she hears of their deaths, Alice, Rick and Dan go with her to the Elm Street house.

When Kristen goes to sleep, she encounters a girl named Alice who tells her that she is there to help Krueger get more children.  Freddy kills Kristen, but before he does, she is able to send her powers of pulling people in dreams to her friend Alice.  When Alice awakes, she knows Kristen’s in trouble and sees her room on fire.

Soon on A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master) all of Alice’s friends are being killed.  Interestingly, after every death, Alice is picking up new abilities because when Kristen transferred her power, they went through Krueger first.  She pairs up with her friend Dan to try to save their friend Debbie before Krueger finds her.  Krueger traps them in a time warp though and gets to Debbie first.

Shortly after, Dan is rushed to the hospital after being in a car accident so Alice goes to sleep so she can jump in Dan’s dream to help protect him.  When she encounters Freddy, they fight and when he is ready to kill her, she remembers the dream master spell’s last verse and defeats him with it.

Alice used her power to guard the gate of pleasant dreams to keep evil away.  A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (The Dream Master) ends with Alice and Dan at a fountain.  When he tosses a coin in the water, Alice briefly sees a reflection of Krueger but shrugs it off as imagination and they walk away.
