Day of the Dead

Living Dead Series, Romera 1985, Day of the Dead

Romera certainly took his sweet time once again before creating Day of the Dead, the next movie in the Dead Series.  7 years after its predecessor but 17 long years after the first zombie film, Day of the Dead doesn’t miss a step, picking up right back up again where Dawn of the Dead ended.

It’s time to own one of the Living Dead, there are plenty to choose from, Visit Living Dead Dolls Now!

The movie begins, allowing for a bit of time to have passed since the chaotic events of the zombies feeding on the population.  Day of the Dead opens with John, Bill, Sarah and Miguel looking through deserted streets in Fort Meyers, Florida, trying to find survivors.  The group is using a megaphone to call out to people  but all they’re attracting are hordes of the undead.

The group returns to where they’ve been hiding out at an army bunker close to the Everglades, this is where the majority of Day of the Dead is filmed.  It is soon made obvious that they belong to a scientific team, supported by the military to study the whole zombie chaos in hopes of finding a way to reverse or at least stop the transformation process.

Day of the Dead starts really getting good when evidence suggests that they have lost communication with other survivors and their supplies are quickly dwindling.  Due to fatigue and stress, Miguel is about to have a nervous breakdown but the captain denies duty leave.

The next scene in Day of the Dead takes you to Dr. Logan who is the head scientist, working in his underground laboratory.  He has been using soldiers who have recently deceased in experiments to find that the zombies are operating on instinct.  It is suggested that they receive no nutritional benefits from eating flesh and he also believes that the zombies in Day of the Dead can be domesticated.  Even though Captain Rhodes and Sarah strongly disagree with his methods of study, he is still permitted to carry on.

When the next day comes in Day of the Dead, Dr. Logan shows Fisher and Sarah a docile zombie he has named Bub who possesses memories of past experiences and can recognize a telephone, book, razors and a toothbrush.  Bub acts unfavorably with a pistol that is unloaded during this demonstration so the captain feels he should shut the project down.  One of the zombies gets loose out of his restraints and kills two soldiers.

He then proceeds to bite Miguel so Bill, John and Sarah amputate his arm in hopes of stopping him from becoming a zombie.  The captain officially decides to stop the operation and says that all of the zombie specimens must be destroyed the following day.

Bill, Miguel and Sarah feel as though the captain and the doctor are losing their minds so they plan on stealing the helicopter.  Of course, a twist occurs in Day of the Dead because when they arrive, the captain is already there.  He demands that john leave his friends behind to fly him and his soldiers away from the base.

There is a struggle, leaving only John, Bill and Sarah alive.  They make a run for the helicopter but as they get there, zombies are coming out of it.  Day of the Dead ends with Sarah waking up on the beach by the helicopter and John and Bill are fishing.  She pulls out a calender, obviously homemade and crosses a day off.
