Hellbound

The same great cast from Hellraiser came together one year later to make Hellbound, the frightening sequel created around Pinhead, everyone’s favorite character.  Although the movie was slandered with endless horrible reviews for its incoherent plot, the constant series of bloody and ugly episodes gave fans the fill they were looking for in a horror movie.

Hellbound opens with a quick flashback of the famous puzzle box being tinkered with by Captain Elliot Spencer who is transported to Hell by Pinhead and his cenobites after he solves it.  Fast forward to present, Kristy awakes in Channard Institute which is a psychiatric hospital she was admitted to.

Homicide Detective Bronson is questioning her because they found the bloody mattress in the attic and then she is introduced to Dr. Phillip Channard and Kyle MacRae, his assistant.  Kristy gives Hellbound viewers a quick recap of the events that occurred in Hellraiser and then begs the detective to burn the mattress in case Julia, her evil stepmother, tries to use it to transport herself out of hell.

That night in Hellbound, Kristy meets a girl named Tiffany who has been in the institute for six months and has a gift for solving puzzles.  Kristy hears voices when she’s trying to sleep and tells Kyle she swears her father is still alive, trapped in Hell but he simply tells her to talk to Dr. Phillip.  Interestingly, what Kyle doesn’t know is that the doctor has a bit of an obsession over there being a portal to Hell and has even had the mattress that was being used as evidence, delivered to his home.

Kyle enters the doctor’s home but hides when he arrives.  He witnesses Dr. Phillip sacrificing a patient to resurrect Julia who is skinless but with future sacrifices, will regain her original form.  Kyle rushes to the hospital to tell Kristy everything he saw and of course, she wants to go to the doctor’s house so she can put a stop to this.

Hellbound gets exciting now when they arrive at the house and Julia kisses Kyle, draining away all of his life so she can complete her resurrection.  Just as Julia and Kristy meet, Dr. Phillip arrives with his next patient to sacrifice who happens to be Tiffany.  He makes the brilliant girl solve the puzzle so he can go to Hell.  Pinhead and his demons arrive but they know Tiffany did not want to go to Hell and Kristy quickly acts like it was her that wanted to go so she could find her father.

The labyrinth of Hell was a disappointment for Kristy in Hellbound.  She finds it wasn’t her father who was calling to her but Julia’s new lover trying to trick her to join them.  When Kristy and Tiffany head back to the hospital, she encounters demons and convinces them to help her so they protect her against the Dr. Philip cenobite.  Unfortunately, he kills the demons who return to human form and Pinhead ends up sacrificing himself to allow Kristy to escape.  Tiffany and Kristy then return to Hell to close the portal.

Hellbound ends after time has passed and two movers are packing up Dr. Philip’s belongings.  One mover gets sucked into the mattress and is killed.  A spinning pillar then rises out of it which is Pinhead screaming along with Julia’s skinned body.  The last head you see is the same character who ended Hellraiser, saying his famous line, “What’s your pleasure, sir?”
