Hellworld

Directed by Rick Bota once again, Hellraiser Hellworld was the fourth installment in the horror series to go straight to DVD.  Released September 6th, 2005, Hellworld did have a larger budget than its predecessor and the results were certainly reflected in the improved reviews.  This was also the last film in the series where Doug Bradley starred as Pinhead.

Plot

Hellraiser Hellworld opens with a group of youths obsessed with playing an online computer game that’s based on the movies series.  The friends are gathered at Adam’s funeral who was killed by the Cenobites after he solved the infamous puzzle box and released them.  Adam’s friends all are consumed with guilt that they weren’t able to save him.

Two years pass in Hellraiser Hellworld and the friends are attending a party to honor the game at an old mansion.  While Chelsea is not thrilled about going, Allison, Mike and Derrick are super excited.  Another friend named Jake has also agreed to come but he is still quite distressed over Adam’s death.  When they arrive, they are given a tour and cellphones so they can communicate with other guests at the party by the host.

Mike, Derrick and Allison all end up some how trapped in different areas and are killed.  Chelsea and Jake seem to be ignored by everyone and begin to see Cenobites but it is suggested they were simply hallucinating.

The plot thickens in Hellraiser Hellworld as Chelsea learns that the host of the party is Adam’s father, who’s goal is to avenge the death of his son.  When Jake and Chelsea attempt to leave the mansion the host stops them and tells them that all five of them were drugged and buried in coffins with cellphones and an air tube.  Everything that has happen was supposedly imaginary however Derrick, Mike and Allison really did die.

Jake and Chelsea are rescued a few days later in Hellraiser Hellworld by the police after an anonymous phone call led them to the graves.  A mysterious figure who looks like Adam is shown standing in one of the windows of the abandoned mansion.

Later on, Adam’s father is seen sitting on his bed, going through his son’s belongings when he finds a Lemarchand’s box.  When he solves it, the Cenobites arrive and he now knows that it’s all real yet he still foolishly hopes that he is dreaming and tries to wake up.  Chatterer III (one of the Cenobites) slices him up into pieces.

Chelsea and Jake are driving when they receive a phone call from Adam’s father but then he suddenly is sitting behind them in the car.  They nearly crash but are able to come to a safe stop.  Hellraiser Hellworld ends with the police entering Adam’s father’s bedroom to see the box on the floor and blood everywhere.
