Voodoo dolls have been made as much a staple of spiritual traditions as tarot cards and Ouija boards, and they are also popular outside of those traditions. You can make voodoo dolls in almost any style you want.

To make a voodoo doll, you will first use two sticks to make the shape of a cross, and use string to tie them together. Using waxed thread or hemp cord for string is better than plain string, since these are stronger. Wrap Spanish moss around each stick, beginning at the middle, and going up and around the head area, then doing each arm, and then towards the middle and down and back up from the bottom.
If you have one long piece of Spanish moss, it will work better than smaller individual pieces. If you can do the wrapping in a continuous motion, it will make your voodoo doll stronger. If your moss breaks, wrap some string around the edges, to make them stronger. As long as you wrap your moss in one continuous loop tightly enough, you won’t need to use string in addition to the moss.
Wrap fabric strips, then, around the moss, Leave moss showing, at least on the head, so it looks like hair, and also at the bottom of the doll and the ends of the arms. Secure the doll with tacky glue. You can use a few stitches with a needle and some thread, for reinforcement.
Next you will need to create a face for your voodoo doll. Use thread to attach beads for eyes, or glue buttons, beads or black eyed peas to make them. A bead or button will make a good mouth.
Now, it’s time to dress the voodoo doll. You don’t have to dress this type of doll if you don’t want to – it’s a matter of
preference. You might have a feeling about the doll, whether it’s male or female, and what they might wear or carry. A voodoo doll should represent a spirit or a real person. If a doll is made specifically like one person you know, use a picture, a piece of clothing, or some hair or other personal item from that person. This traditionally will charge the doll with that person’s energy.

Most people think that voodoo dolls just get pins stuck in them, but you should also know that different feelings and emotions are attached to the various colors of the pins you use. Most people who use voodoo dolls use seven pins.
To use a voodoo doll, select the pins to be used and concentrate on the symbolism of each color. Red is power; yellow is money; green is tranquility; blue is love; purple is spirituality; black is pain relief; white is positive energy and pink is death.
Meditate on how these things would best be manifested in your life. Be clear about what you want and what you desire from each pin color. Use them according to the rules of voodoo, to improve your life or the life of the other person the voodoo doll is made after.
